For those of you unfamiliar with the Beechcraft

Here you go, it is cozy, and you get a window and aisle seat at the same time!

I survived the Beechcraft 1900D!!!

I survived my experiences on the beechcraft 1900D, that first one from Denver to Manhattan, KS worried me a bit, I am not a big fan of seeing the interior of the airplane held together with tape.  I start wondering what is holding the other parts together.

I am back in Utah and look forward to relaxing over the weekend.  Making some hot wings, drinking some beer, and watching two teams I could care less about play in the Superbowl.

I am working on a 750 pt list with Deneghra as well as a 500 point list with Skarre.  The 750 Deneghra list is in a previous post, but not sure where I'm going to go with Skarre.  I am used to having that 7 focus and 14 inch control range so going down to 6 and 12 is going to take a while to get used too.

When I get the Skarre list generated I will post it.  I am hoping to be able to get 2 games in this Wednesday.

Full Disclosure

To follow in John's footsteps here is what I have for cryx.  The list looks pretty puny in comparison but it has been doing the job.

Warcasters

Warwitch Deneghra
Iron Lich Asphyxious
Pirate Queen Skarre

Jacks

Slayer
Cankerwom
Defiler
Deathripper (x2)
Nightwretch (x2)

Units

Bile Thralls (Full Unit of 10)
Mechanithralls (unit of 6)
Soulhunters (unit of 3)

Solos

Darragh Wrathe
Gorman Di Wulfe
Pistol Wraith (x2)
Machine Wraith

I think that is everything.  This is has served me well so far, but as mentioned in a previous post I am looking at some exponential growth.

Units of Interest

Bane Knights or Bane Thralls (Weapon Masters)
Withershadow Combine
Nyss Hunters

Solos

Bloat Thralls
Bane Lord Tartarus

Warcasters

Lich Lord Terminus

Manhattan!.......Kansas???

I am headed off to lovely Manhattan, Kansas next week so I will not be playing Warmachine. I have however been thinking through a list I want to field. I have decided to go back to my first love of Cryx casters and put together a 750 pt list around Deneghra.

This is what I'm thinking

pDeneghra
Cankerworm
Slayer
Deathripper (2)
Nightwretch
Bile Thralls (10)
Mechanithralls (6)
Soul Hunters (3)
Pistol Wraiths (2)
Darragh Wrathe
Gorman di Wulfe

This list should definatley provide enough opportunities for corrosion for the cankerworm and with the debuffs that Denny's spells and feats offer it gives the slayer and mechanithralls a little more hitting power. I have been figuring out the Soul Hunters and Darragh Wrathe a little better each time I play and they are amazing and wiping out entire units of infantry or giving a jack a decent amount of damage if they have some soul tokens. The nightwretch can help provide some ranged ability withe AOE and Gorman can also come in handy in the sense. The pistol wraiths are my cold blooded assassins, well that is if they were living I suppose. I have been considering picking up a bloat thrall to add some ranged threat. I am hoping to pick up some new models over the next couple of months and along with the bloat thrall I am thinking it is about time for some weapon masters. I just have to decide if I want to go Bane Knights or Bane Thralls, it seems that majority suggest the Knights. I will also add Tartarus and possibly Lich Lord Terminus. I still need something with range and I have been considering Nyss Hunters for that purpose.

Fall to one of Turok's Bastard Children

Just a short battle report. I played against Legion and although it was a close game I couldn't pull out the win. I have only played a couple of times against Hordes and they still throw me for a loop.

This is what I fielded.

eDeneghra (Which I didn't know how to play)
Slayer
Cankerworm
Deathripper (2)
Nightwretch
Soulhunters (3)
Darragh Wrathe
Mechanithralls (6)
Bile Thralls (9)
Gorman di Wulfe
Pistol Wraith (2)

I think that it is. The cankerworm was destroyed pretty quickly. The bile thralls and soul hunters did a great job of reducing his units to squishy mush. Those damn beasts though, it just seemed that I couldn't bring enough hitting power. I was facing a bunch of shredders, a carnivean, 2 seraphs, a shepard, and a couple of units one with bows. It was a good, close game, but not quite enough.

In a more positive note, John was able to defeat the Pink Khadorian Army of Doom that defeated me last week. I was not able to catch most of the game, but it looks like John had a list that was designed to take down all of those jacks, so congratulations to John for that well deserved victory.

Double your pleasure....or pain, your choice.

Kim and I headed over to John's house this afternoon before grocery shopping and John and I had a 750 pt battle. This is the first time we have played each other at this point level, and only my second game at this point level. I fielded the list that from my previous post, and went up against a lot of Menite stuff that I'm not even sure what it was. This was a strange game with the zealots and bile thralls playing hide and seek behind a wall. Eryss hit my slayer with a disruptor bolt the first turn but I was able to get her with a couple of mechanithrall charges. I made a serious tactical error with my cankerworm and activated it for a charge prior to using the doomspitter on my defiler to get corrosion. This ended badly with my Cankerworm getting destroyed and the defiler as well. One of my pistol wraiths was able to take out Holt and this led to John pulling back Lady Ayana. The menite jacks did a pretty good job of taking care of my soulhunters, and the FoS put a beating on my slayer, but this time I was hell bent on the assination run with the pistol wraiths. I ran an arc node up and didn't realize that the devout had reach and all of the sudden my plan was shot to hell. I kept lobbing in Breath of Corruption and was able to inflict some damage. I was running out of ideas but popped Asphyxious' feat and dropped a couple more breath of corruptions and then used shadow wings to fly away. I brought the pistol wraith up and took a shot at Severus but the devout jumped in the way, so I went ahead and death chilled the devout.

Now is when it gets fun, John was able to take all attack effects off the devout and then charged my pistol wraith which was now corpreal. I thought I was screwed. I somehow survived the charge attack. The zealots took out Gorman who held up admirably this game as well as a few bile thralls and then cast the mini feat of can't be killed basically. After completing his turn the devout was outside of the range of Severus. I ran my last Arc Node up and hit Severus with parasite. Since my pistol wraith survived he was again incorpreal and he left melee with the devout and moved into range of Severus. I took the shot, hit, and then rolled an 11 damage to finish the game. This was another well balanced game between John and I. It also helped that we were able to drink beer. Nothing like a homebrewed nut brown ale followed by a Sierra Nevada Porter. I left John with a couple of the nut brown ales a couple of suprise homebrews. There is a chance they could be something tasty, and there is a chance that they are from the batch of stout I made that did not ferment properly.

MVPs

My choice for menite MVP is that devout, that thing is a pain in the ass. It blocked line of sight, it jumped in front of shots, it has reach. It made this one of the hardest assination attempts I have ever tried.

Cryx MVP-That one pistol wraith was able to get off 3 attacks without getting killed. That is a new record for me.

Now to the pain. John and I decided to team up for a two-on-two against Adam playing Khador and another guy that was fielding Legion. We each had 500 point armies. I'm not even sure what to say about this except that Denny ended up dying in the second round to a Dragoon that charged me after being thrown at my by some giant beast. It was not pretty. I continued to help John where I could with the pistol wraiths, bile thralls, and mechanithralls, but in the end the Dragoon finished the job by charging John's caster. This style of game was an interesting concept but John and I were definately not prepared. We did not have the time to think through how our armies could best work together and it seems that Adam had been thinking about this for some time.

Well that is enough about that. I am not even sure how to put that in the win-loss column so for now I'm calling it specialty battles.

I promise that eventually I will get some more pictures in here. That just seems like a lot of effort get the camera out lately. I think that John and I should actually film a turn sometime and edit it down and get that posted. I'm not sure how entertaining it would be, but I'm always up for the criticism.

Saturday's rumble list...including beer!

Okay so I am making one small change to the list for Saturday, but not a big deal. This is what I'm fielding.

Asphyxious
Slayer
Deathripper
Defiler
Nightwretch
Cankerworm
Skarlock
Pistol Wraith (2)
Bile Thralls (full unit of 10)
Mechanithralls (min unit of 6)
Soulhunters (Leader +2 troops)
Darragh Wrathe
Gorman Di Wulfe

That puts me at 749/750 pts.

And for the beer. I need to remember to put a couple of the nut brown ales in the fridge so John can help me polish off a couple more. Then it is time to contemplate the next batch of homebrew. I am considering oatmeal stout.

Khadorian Pink Army of Destruction

I played my first 750 pt game last night against Caleb who was fielding a lovely pink Khadorian army that he is painting for his wife. It was a very good game, but in the end the Khadorians came out on top.

The game started off with his widowmakers and epic Eryss trying to snipe off my bile thralls, but he moved them in a bit to close and I was able to advance and with one purge wiped them all out. The cankerworm went up pretty well against some of his smaller jacks and kept him tied up, the slayer was able to tie up a juggernaut, and then the soulhunters and darragh went to work on bohemeth and one of the smaller jacks. They were able to inflict a fair amount of damage and disable some weapons on the smaller jacks. The star agains the bohemeth were actually a couple of mechanithralls that went in and did 10 points of damage with steamfist combos.

I had everything perfectly lined up for the assassination run but I did not manage my focus well. I allocated focus to the cankerworm and slayer instead of having asphyxious hold it to boost hits and damage. I didn't realize how high defense Vlad is. I was able to get a pistol wraith in, but I was only able to hit with the first pistol.

It was a fun game and I came close, but yet again no victory.

Darragh Wrathe

Well I spent last night working on Darragh. The mounted model is kind of a pain with having to put together the two sides of the horse. It left a lot of cracks that had to be mended with green stuff. I have to say that the unmounted version looks pretty bad ass. I will get some pictures up this evening hopefully. I need to get at least one nightwretch assembled for tomorrow's game night.

I figured out that with all of my models I am up to 928 points. This is of course with 2 casters, but I can now field 750 pts. I'm looking at filling out my mechanithralls, possibly purchasing Skarre, and Doc Killingsworthe because I have some devious plan brewing in my evil genius brain.

Been a while

Well the holidays really threw off the postings. I also haven't had much opportunity to paint. I have assembled my soul hunter and look forward to getting Darragh Wrathe to play with them. The holidays went well. Kim and I spent New Year's Eve with John and his wife, Michelle. It was a fun evening of Warmachine, conversation, and a variety of beer. It was nice of Michelle and Kim to tolerate John and I playing in the basement. In the end I came out victorious with my first out of the Asphyxious, the cankerworm, and Gorman de Wulfe. It was another fun game. When I get some more painting done I will be posting the pictures. I have to do some green stuff work on the soul hunters before priming them.
