Paint, Paint, Paint

It turned into a pretty productive weekend of painting.  Kimberly finished the pistol wraith that she was working on as well as providing most of the paint for the machine wraith.  I added some finishing touches.  I finished off the bile thralls as well as Deneghra.  Asphyxious is primed as well as the mechanithralls and gormin de wulfe.  The cankerworm is almost assembled but not primed and the soulhunters just look intimidating to assemble.  I'm getting closer to that 750 pt level once I get Darragh Wrathe and a couple two more bile thralls to complete the unit I will be there.

I will add the rest tomorrow.

A loss to Cygnar

Well another round of warmachine yesterday, but a new opponent. John was busy with a 750 pt. match against Khador so I faced against a more seasoned Cygnar player. I was actually pretty pleased with my performance. I had him backing up and made him think a lot. The pistol wraiths once again were a menace to my oppent as I almost took out his caster with a combination of crippling grasp and then shots from the pistol wraiths. I did waste my feat however. I moved Deneghra up and popped the feat only to realized that I could not target his Knights with magic, and he had everything else surrounded by Knights. It came down to his jack finally finishing off Deneghra, but overall a good game. I purchases some soulhunters and garmin de wulfe to assemble for next time.

Bitter Defeat

I had two battles last night and unfortunately lost both.

I don't mind losing it is all part of the learning process, but it is frustrating when the dice just seem cursed. I do have to hand it to John that he did a great job of blocking my line of sight to Kreoss making it extremely difficult for me to get off any spells or shots. I did have him lined up and then just couldn't get the dice rolls I needed, which was unfortunate because I did not have to roll that high.

The 2nd game was against a more seasoned player fielding Khador. He pretty much immediately took out most of my units. He did however leave his caster open to a pistol wraith that I had on the edge of the board. I was able to sneak an arc node so I could get line of sight, I then moved up Deneghra popped her feat and then followed it up with parasite to lower the armor. I attacked with venom which did very little damage, and then went in for the kill with the pistol wraith. Unfortunately the cursed dice returned. I needed to roll a 4 on two dice to kill the caster and I rolled a two. This led to my demise soon after when it giant jack stomped over and pummeled me. I did get a lot of tactical help from more experienced players during this game or I am sure I would have have made it that close, but overall the night was a great learning experience.

I hope to have the cankerworm and asphyxious put together for next week.

Oh, one other note. Kube, a guy we work with, showed up and borrowed some Hordes models and played against another newbie. Kube scored his first victory and will hopefully become hooked so I have another Tremonton player for those days I don't feel like driving over the mountain.

Picked up a New Trick

I really need to research my models a bit more before I start playing. I did not play my bile thralls correctly last time. I did not realize that purge was an auto hit of everything within 6 inches of the front arc. I kept rolling to hit and with a rat of 3 I wasn't having much luck against the Knights Exemplar.

But now I know for next time.

More Paint

I worked on a pistol wraith and a bile thrall. Those bile thralls are ugly little suckers when you get some paint on them.

First 500 Point Game

I had my first 500 point battle the day after Thanksgiving. John and I met at Phoenix Comics and Games in Logan to pit his Protectorate of Menoth force against my army of undead Cryx. John used a new warcaster and Feora did a good job of keeping my units back using a wall of fire. I used Bile Thralls to cut into the knights exemplar force and once free the mechanithralls quickly disabled one of his light warjacks. The fire of salvation was able to inflict enough damage to my slayer that with the sustained fire my slayer became disabled shortly after I was able to get my machine wraith into the fire of salvation.

The battle was pretty even until I was able to get an arc node into position along with two pistol wraiths. I popped Deneghra's feat and was able to catch John's warcaster and lower her stats. I followed this up with the scourge spell which connected and caused some damage, but the big bonus was that it knocked her down giving her a base defense of 5 for the pistol wraiths to work with. The pistol wraiths hit with all attacks which did not do a lot of damage, but by hitting with all attacks I was able to combine their chain attack which caused his warcaster to forfeit attack or movement, and since she was knocked down she ended up having to forfeit both.

John was able to block and tie up a couple of my arc nodes, but I was able to sneak one in and continued to use scourge and the pistol wraiths. John popped feora's feat and this put a huge dent into my forces. I lost the skarlock, one of the pistol wraiths, most of my bile thralls and mechanithralls. I cast scourge but missed even with a boosted roll. I was worried that if I didn't finish John off I was running low at models to throw into the fray. Luckily my last pistol wraith was positioned behind Feora and with the back attack was able to connect and finish off the warcaster.

Another great game, I think we ended up at right around 2 hours which for us is not bad at a 500 point army.

I have been working on painting more models and should have more pictures soon.

We have pictures

Here are some pics from the models I have been working on.  I was in a hurry so I didn't drag out the tripod and I need to play with my depth of field to make sure that I lose the fuzzy edges, but this is better than nothing.  Enjoy.

First Win

John and I played at Phoenix Games on Thursday and had another marathon game. It does seem that we are both picking the rules up and that game play is progressing better. John changed up his army a little by pulling out some of the jacks in exchange for units and changed his warcaster to Kreoss. John's Fire of Salvation did not have as big an impact in this game partly due to the initial mistake of moving the jack outside of Kreoss' control range. This game we both of us used our feats. John popped his first and was able to knock down most of my models. This allowed him to eliminate my slayer from play soon after. I thought that I had made a large mistake by running one of my arc nodes around a mountain and out of Deneghra's control area. This actually allowed me to get position on Kreoss. I rushed Deneghra into the units and popped her feat which lowers all of the stats by two of all enemy models in her control range. The feat was followed by channelling scourge through the arc node and knocking Kreoss down. The Knights Exemplar surrounded Deneghra but she was able to survive and at the end of the round the Skarlock cast crippling grasp which lowered Kreoss' def and arm and then Deneghra channeled scourge which was able to cause enough damage to destroy Kreoss. I will let John pick his MVP, but I definitely think that Deneghra was the cryx mvp. She was able to charge into the knights exemplar and survive long enough to channel spells at Kreoss and finish the job.

Study, Study, Study

What a fun Thursday evening spent studying microbiology. I would much rather be spending the night playing warmachine fielding my newly painted slayer. I am most likely not going to have any classes this spring because of some travel being required for work, so this should allow for more time to learn the rules and paint my models. I should end up with some new models to work on for Christmas and then it might be time to try a 500 point game.

First ever blog

Well I figured I would give blogging a shot.  I doubt that I will have the discipline to keep this up as well as most people, but we will see.

I am studying for a microbiology lab quiz and a test next week, which is unfortunately keeping me from painting my warmachine models.  The cryx slayer is almost fully painted, but I fear even with the paint job it is no match for John's Fire of Salvation jack.  If I can figure out how to post pictures I will add them later today.
